Metastasis to the oral cavity: a systematic review

The present study proposed to systematically review case reports of metastasis the oral cavity and compile epidemiological, clinical, radiological, histopathological features, intending identify common aspects that may favor early diagnosis such condition. Articles were found by searching following databases: PubMed; EMBASE; LIVIVO; Web Science; LILACS; Scopus SciELO. search was carried out in March 2021 two independent researchers, with no restrictions publication date or language. A total 2379 studies retrieved 60 articles completely matched inclusion criteria, totalizing 65 cases from 19 countries. Metastasis slightly frequent males (1.7:1) sixth decade life, manifesting soft tissues (58%, 37/65), mostly originated lungs (20%, 13/65) as primary site. Adenocarcinoma most reported type malignacy. In 51% metastatic lesion first sign cancer 60% patients already presented other locations. 23% reports, only benign lesions considered diagnostic hypothesis, due a remarkable clinical resemblance hyperplastic, reactive odontogenic infections. survival probability at 6 months after 49%. Metastatic are often misdiagnosed lesions; its severity quick progression, they must be differential process, conducted multidisplinary healthcare team comprising an surgeon, especially for history cancer.
